In Rugby, as in most sports, the players are divided into groups based on a specific role they perform in the game. Below they are broken as the Forwards and the Backs (The Backs include the Wings and Fullbacks).
Each group has a set of skills found on the Skill Chart on the back of the Training Guide. Players from these groups will perform well in certain circumstances and poorly in others. Knowing their limitations will improve your chances of victory.
THE FORWARDS:
These are the tough guys in your team and are there to make the hard yards! They have the body-bruising task of relentlessly carrying the ball towards the opposition tryline, forcing tackles, smashing holes, and exhausting the defenders!
The Forwards are most effective when used in small tight groups of 3 or more, known as pods. They work best when charged at defenders to create gaps for your faster Backs to exploit.

So what is the backline in rugby union? The backline consists of the wingers, centers, and fullbacks. These players are responsible for creating space on the pitch, attacking and defending, as well as kicking and passing the ball. They are the most attack-minded players on the team and can be the difference between winning and losing.
As for tactics, the backline should focus on creating space and exploiting weaknesses in the opposing team’s defense. They should look to get the ball to their wingers quickly, as they are the fastest players on the team. The centers should look to create as many passing options as possible, and the fullbacks should be ready to kick long and deep to give the team a chance at attacking the goal-line.
If the backline is working well and using their skills, then the whole team will benefit. It's important for the backline to be creative, confident, and organized to ensure that the team works as a cohesive unit. With the right tactics and strategies, the backline can be a force to be reckoned with and help the team to victory!
So, get ready to take advantage of your team's backline magic on the pitch!
THE BACKS:
The Backs combine good Ball, Kicking, and Movement skills into a fast and deadly attack. Their burst of speed, fleet of foot, and classy ball skills are ideal for exploiting a weakened defence. Use your Backs to get behind the opposition and gain valuable ground for your team!

With a good mix of Movement, Ball and Kicking skills the Backs are best suited at breaking the oppositions defensive lines by running straight at htem or move the ball to the wings where they can be released at pace! Well placed kicks for territory are another great tactic that keeps the opposition guessing!
THE WINGS:
They say there is no counter for speed! The Wings have the task of running the ball at a blistering pace toward the Tryline. Their low Ball Skill is their downfall so always try to use them as the last player in your attack.
